A few things about me.

Hello! I'm Mark, a UX/UI & Graphic Designer based in the stunning city of Edinburgh. Originally from the Philippines, I also lived and worked in Kuwait before relocating to Scotland. Moving here has allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant culture and fascinating history of this remarkable city. I love haggis and sausage rolls!

As a Designer, my passion lies in crafting practical and visually appealing products that improve lives and address everyday challenges. I approach design with a user-first mindset, believing that every decision should cater to the user's needs and preferences. I thrive on problem-solving and am driven by the goal of delivering meaningful experiences with optimal results. With years of experience, I’ve developed a strong understanding of graphic design, user experience (UX), user interface (UI), design systems, and branding—and I often work across all these areas to support meaningful projects.

Outside of design, you’ll often find me hillwalking and wandering through Edinburgh’s streets, exploring its museums, galleries, libraries, shops, gardens and local cafes. As a member of the National Trust for Scotland and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, I support efforts to preserve Scotland’s rich heritage while enjoying its most beautiful historic places.

My path to becoming a designer began with a Graphic Design course in the Philippines, which I later built upon in Scotland by earning an HND in User Experience Design and a BA (Hons) in Visual Communications from Kingston School of Art, Kingston University.

If you have 5 minutes to teach people something new, what would you teach?

How to make sticky rice cake! 🍡

Means "hello" or "yes". 😊

I have always been very good at finding creative solutions to problems, a skill greatly enhanced by the User Experience Design course at Edinburgh College and the Visual Communication course at Kingston. These courses focused on problem-solving and visual storytelling.

My approach to design starts with a deep understanding of the target audience and stakeholders—whether it’s their behaviours, pain points, or goals, I conduct user research, including user surveys, interviews with users and stakeholders, and data analytics, to gather both qualitative and quantitative insights, which I use to create user personas, user stories, journey maps, and user flows.

I have excellent computer skills and am familiar with a wide range of design programs such as Figma or Adobe Xd for wireframes, rapid prototypes and creating or managing design systems—am also familiar with framer and proficient with adobe programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe After Effects.

I have developed knowledge in project management and team collaboration through Notion, Miro or Mural, Slack, and Microsoft 365. Whether working alone or as part of a team, I approach design solutions with a comprehensive design thinking process such as Agile Method, ODI (Outcome-Driven Innovation) Approach, and Design Sprint.

My experience in the industry has significantly broadened my strategic B2C and B2B skill set. I am proficient in Google Workspace, Maze for user testing, CMS (content management systems) such as umbraco, wordpress, squarespace, webflow, and shopify. These experiences also further sharpened my presentation, communication, organisational and adaptability skills as well as my attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. They have enhanced my marketing skills by designing newsletters using Campaign Monitor or Mailchimp, PPC and GDN Ads.
