Edinburgh Council's recycling centre improved booking experience

How might we retain the booking system and improve the user experience for mobile?

Since COVID, in order for Edinburgh residents to recycle at any of the city recycle locations, they must first book a slot online. They can select the date, choose an available slot, and must input their postcode, car type and registration. The system then emails them confirmation. When residents arrive, staff at the plant can check their registration from a list. The system was created in haste and has a range of functional and aesthetic user experience issues. Edinburgh Council recognises that people now used to booking, it has reduced congestion and allowed recyclers to plan better. The Council is looking at ways to simplify the process for anyone using the recycling plants, and to encourage more people to use it.
